Why Pine Island

Pine Island sits in Matlacha Pass on the west side of Lee County, connected to Cape Coral by the bridge through Matlacha. It is the largest island on Florida's Gulf coast and it has no Gulf beaches of its own, which is exactly why it has stayed quieter than the barrier islands across the water. Bokeelia sits at the north end, St. James City at the south, with Pineland and Matlacha along the way.

Property here runs from canal homes with direct access out to the Sound, to acreage and older cottages set back among the palms and mangroves. Matlacha was hit hard by Hurricane Ian in 2022 and parts of the island are still rebuilding, which is an honest part of any conversation about buying here.
